Kawan HANDEP; Sustainable and Ethical Home Decor
A flagship store isn’t a flagship store without offering something more. With our move to Ubud at the beginning of 2023, we decided to start a new initiative to offer better options for the conscious consumer. Kawan HANDEP (or Friends of HANDEP) is a curated collective of brands that have sustainability and ethical practices as part of their brand DNA.
Browse through home decor brands who thoughtfully create their products using sustainable materials and showcase Indonesian culture through their crafts, and bring a little piece of Indonesia into your homes.
Studio Dapur
Pictured left; Traditionally used as food covering at dinner tables, these bamboo pieces are given design updates by Studio Dapur.
Partnering with artisans with decades of experience, Studio Dapur aims to elevate bamboo pieces as high quality artisanal homeware, while at the same time highlighting the sustainable and long-lasting qualities of bamboo as a raw material.
Studio Dapur gives back to their communities through financial support, livelihood improvements, as well as research & development support. Allowing artisans to continuously hone their specialties of bamboo weaving and creating laminated frames, in order to empower the villagers inclusively.
Lafaina Ikat

Lafaina Ikat is a social enterprise is driven by community empowerment, working to preserve culture and develop communities in a sustainable and ethical way. Highlighting traditional ikat made by the skilled and deft hands of women hailing from East Nusa Tenggara, they create conversation pieces to decorate homes and interior spaces.
Colorful threads are traditionally woven to create patterns and motifs that are unique to the region, telling stories that are passed down from generation to generation in every piece.
With sustainable and ethical practices in consumer-facing brands gaining more and more popularity, HANDEP hopes to continuously partner and showcase more brands in the coming years who aren’t just using sustainability as a marketing ploy.
Through our Kawan HANDEP initiative, we’re also working with a number of fashion products and accessories that are showcased at the HANDEP flagship store in Ubud.
